Bird Watching at the Lashihai lake

At an elevation of 2500 meters, Lashihai (Lashi Lake) is the largest highland lake in Lijiang County, and an important habitat for over 70 species of migratory birds, the highest water bird species diversity of any lake in Northwest Yunnan.

This water birds inhabit the lake (10,5%), wetlands (22,8), and farmlands (66,7%) of Lashihai. Several of these birds have protected status, including the 20 listed bellows.

Join our tours to watch birds from the end of October to the beginning of April, when the lake is home to tens of thousands of migratory birds coming to feed on its abundance of local crops, aquatic plant species and different species of fish.

Nearby the lake Wenhai - a 4,5 hours hike from the Lake Lashi, our guide can help you to watch the following protected species near from the lake: Black Stork, Black-Necked Crane, Common Crane, Whopper Swan. In the Dragon Jade Snow Montain, at 1,2 hours hike from the lake, you can have the opportunity to see the White Eared Pheasants, Koklass Pheasants and Lady Amhrerst’s Pheasant.
